Sri Lanka is due to assume chairmanship of the 53-member Commonwealth during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). This meeting on the 15th of November, hosted by Sri Lanka, should be an opportunity to address the country’s human rights abuses – something that is not on the agenda. It is terrifying the amount of harm that is coming to people which we still know so little about, and it’s happening all over the world. We can do something about it by raising awareness and campaigning for change. Amnesty International’s Student Conference this weekend protested outside Parliament and are launching a full campaign on the abuses in Sri Lanka. This Channel 4 documentary is distressing and sobering, but such a worthwhile watch.
